First Episode of the new comedy web series, Whole Day Down aka the reason I haven’t been posting on tumblr in a while.
A little bit about it…
Whole Day Down documents the reinvention of Willie Garson and Patrick Breen (two middle-aged actors) as they pursue their mutual passion for art and money by opening a gallery. They must weather the typical challenges of any new business: a demonic receptionist, a fetishistic landlord, an awkward love pentagon, a roster of nihilist artists, and the dawning realization that the entire venture may be the doggie door through which the hounds of hell are unleashed.
If Film Independent and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences had a baby live streaming on the Internet, it would be the International Academy of Web Television. The IAWTV is THE organization for the medium of web television aka web series. If you are a creative, executive or talent in the web space you should absolutely become a member. The IAWTV is shaping the web industry from the ground up, mapping out the future of the medium by setting the standards and educating the public. And I hear they hold the key to that elusive question, what is a web series?
On January 12, 2012, the IAWTV is putting on its first annual award show at CES (the International Consumer Electronics Show). This is award show is a huge opportunity for creators to get their work showcased. These awards are friendly and accessible to indie creators. It doesn’t matter if you are a network show or a small independent show, your work will be judged the same, purely on the quality of the content. If you want to vote in the awards, become a member of the IAWTV here: http://iawtv.org/join-us/
Submissions for the IAWTV awards are open until October 31, 2011. Categories include Best Comedy Web Series, Drama, Hosted (Live & Taped), Animated, Documentary, Writing, Directing, Actor, Actress, Editing, Music & more. For a full list visit http://iawtv.org/awards/categories/
A few rules of the awards…the episodes you submit must have been released between January 1, 2010 and October 31, 2011 and you must have released 2 episodes in that time. You can learn more about eligibility here: http://iawtv.org/2011/10/04/call_for_submissions/
Submissions are open to all web series that fit the eligibility requirements. But if you are a non-member, consider joining the IAWTV and not only get a $50 discount on your submission but also access to other great resources. Join the web series revolution, become a member before October 28th to enjoy the discounted submission fee of $45 (reg $95). The fee allows you to submit in up to 5 categories (and you can submit any episode of your show in each category). Very reasonable fees for the amount of categories.
So, check it out. Submit your show and maybe join the IAWTV while you’re at it. And hopefully, I will see you at the awards in Las Vegas in January.
The stories that tend to get the most coverage in the web series world are success stories — shows signing deals, partnering with big companies or finding new outlets for distribution. Independent…
